David Butler
David Butler is in his penultimate year of Business Studies through Irish in Dublin City University. Hailing from Kilkenny, David served as the chairperson of the Irish Language Society (An Cumann Gaelach) in DCU. Passionate about sports, David has set up an Irish language GAA club. With a strong track record of volunteering, he is currently involved in organising Rith 2012 (an Irish language festival).
Aaron Callan
Aaron Callan is pursuing a Masters in Legal Science in Queen’s University Belfast. Aaron obtained his undergraduate degree in History from the University of Ulster before going on to complete a Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies also from the University of Ulster. Aaron is a Chairman of the Youth Forum in Limavady and the Chairman of the Young Unionists in East Londonderry. Continuing his political involvement, he was a candidate in the recent Northern Ireland local elections.
Siobhan Carroll
Siobhan Carroll is a final year European Studies student at Trinity College Dublin. Siobhan is highly involved with the European Youth Parliament, where she was appointed the Head Organizer for the National Session of EYP in 2009. Recently, Siobhan travelled to Beijing as part of the European delegation for the EU China Year of Youth Opening Ceremony. Siobhan is also strongly committed as a volunteer with children’s charities in Peru, Nepal and inner-city Dublin.
Angelina Cox
Angelina Cox is a first-year student of Law and Politics at Trinity College Dublin, having entered university on three scholarships for her academic achievements. She is originally from Listowel, Co. Kerry. She is passionate about political reform, especially the lack of female representation in Parliament. She is a member of the Irish Labour Party and is vice-chair and Woman’s Officer in the Trinity College branch. Last summer she interned at RADDHO, a human rights organization in Senegal, where she carried out research on gender-based violence.
Cathy Devlin
Cathy Devlin is a third-year student of English Law at the University of Dundee. Cathy is a very active member of the University, being involved in a number of societies including the Model United Nations and setting up a law clinic in her school which she now volunteers at weekly. In addition to this, she plays a badminton ladder and is a keen ice-skater. Before studying in Dundee, Cathy completed her studies in Northern Ireland at Belfast Metropolitan College.
Victoria Dowds
Pursuing a Masters in Human Rights Law, Victoria Dowds is a recent graduate of the University of Ulster, where she obtained her degree in Law with Government. Victoria is passionate about the victims of the conflict in Northern Ireland. She has undertaken work as a researcher for the Northern Ireland Assembly, specializing in victim’s rights and has sat in on numerous sessions of the Commission for Victims and Survivors and the Northern Ireland Victims Forum.
Bronagh Finnegan
Bronagh Finnegan is a final-year student of Law and Politics at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. Bronagh has a keen interest in service, volunteering with the NSPCC and St Vincent de Paul. She also volunteers with the Mariallac Society, supporting older people in her community. Bronagh has a keen interest in educational policy and has acted as a class representative in the Stormont Assembly on educational issues.
Roisin Fitzpatrick
Roisin is a final-year student in Civil Law in NUI Galway, and a qualified legal secretary. Last year, she helped establish a Free Legal Advice Clinic for students on her campus. This year she became the Clinic’s Chairperson and ran a conference entitled ‘Law Day – Equal Access to Justice’. She is also currently in the process of establishing a Disability Law Clinic at NUIG, as well as participating in various sporting activities.
Jean Fleming
Jean Fleming is a final-year student of Government at University College Cork. An internal convenor for the International Relations Society at UCC, she helped in the organisation of Model United Nations conferences. Last summer, in Palestine, she took part in a volunteer programme working with UNWRA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency).
Rachel Gervais
Rachel Gervais is currently in the final year of a Geography undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford. This year, Rachel has become the Director of Project Teach Pacific – a program which aims to improve the standard of secondary teaching on the islands of Vanuatu. Passionate about international development, Rachel has spent time in both rural Kenya and Thailand working on education projects.
Shauna Kavanagh
Shauna Kavanagh is a student of Law and International Politics in the University of Ulster. An accomplished debater, Shauna was awarded the Best Individual Speaker in Northern Ireland Award in 2007 by David Trimble. Shauna was the Junior Mayor of Derry City and the Chairperson of a Local Area Youth Forum. A keen Irish dancer, she placed 1st in the American National Irish Dance Championships and 2nd in the World Championships.
Vicky Kavanagh
Vicky Kavanagh is a final-year student of Journalism in DCU. A participant in the DCU Access programme, Vicky worked as a Student Leader on the Access Summer School week and also worked as a leader on the ‘Take Five’ access program in 2009 and 2010. Vicky is passionate about journalism and has worked as Deputy News Editor, Deputy Arts Editor and is currently Features Editor of DCU’s ‘College View’ newspaper.
Andrew Maloney
Andrew is a final-year student of Music and Irish at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and comes from Tullamore. A contributor to the magazine FaceUp, Andrew is a member of the Students Union Welfare Committee in his University. He has played an active role in Special Olympics Ireland and played a key role in getting his home town to convert to selling Fairtrade products.
Owen McMeel
Owen McMeel is a second-year student of Product Design and Development at Queen’s University Belfast. As President of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), Owen is committed to extra-curricular activities. SIFE fosters participation in entrepreneurship through skill sharing and competitions and won Queen’s “Society of the Year” in 2010. An entrepreneur, Owen obtained 4th place at Intel’s International Science and Engineering competition in Beijing for ‘Wirewise’, a cost saving device for electricians.
Laura Mullin
Laura Mullin is a second-year student of Law and Politics at the University of Liverpool. A former Head Girl, Laura went on to become the Local Youth Council Chair, a position that saw her attend sittings in Dáil Éireann, Westminster and Stormont. Through this, she has supported the International Citizenship Project in Boston. She is part of the University Legal Society and assists a local mentoring scheme.
Ciaran O'Connor
Ciaran O’Connor is a third-year student of International Politics at the University of Ulster, Magee. Originally from Galway, Ciaran helped establish a Sinn Fein branch there but has taken a less party-political role since returning to education. A mature student, and former landscape gardener, Ciaran has worked with the Samaritan’s Purse, travelling with the organisation to Croatia and Romania, assisting in summer camps in both countries. In addition, Ciaran is also an avid GAA player.
Jack O'Donnell
Jack is a final-year student of Law and European Studies and grew up in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Last year, Jack spent the year on exchange in Stockholm, where he assisted with the Swedish Irish Society. Last summer, Jack completed an internship with Fine Gael in Brussels, working in the European Parliament. Since returning, Jack has become the vice-chair of the UCD Law Society and volunteered as part of Fine Gael’s Digital Task Force during the recent General Election.
Conal O'Hare
Conal O’Hare is a second-year student of Law with Politics at Queen’s University Belfast. A keen debater, Conal is currently serving as the chair of Queen’s Conservative Future as well as being the Deputy Chair of the South Belfast Conservative Association. Conal is also active in the UK Youth Parliament. Outside of this, Conal works as an assistant in the Student Guidance Centre & is passionate about drama.
Julie O'Leary
Julie is a third-year Law student at University College Cork. She is an active member of Young Fine Gael, and is the incoming chairperson of the UCC Young Fine Gael, one of the largest and most active branches in the country. Julie has just finished an internship with Sean Kelly MEP in the European Parliament and has also worked with Nasc, the Irish Immigrant Support Centre. Julie plays the piano (Grade 8 RIAM) and is a member of her local choir.
Moosa Patel
Moosa is a third-year student of Engineering at University College Dublin. Hailing from Monkstown, Moosa earned an All-Ireland Scholarship for his academic achievements. He is also a keen sportsman, and has been involved in a variety of activities, including Gaelic football and scuba diving. Moosa currently serves as vice-chair of the Federation of Students Islamic Societies (FOSIS), the society for Muslim students in Ireland.
Eugene Reavey
Eugene Reavey is a Law student in his penultimate year at Trinity College Dublin. Eugene serves as the Chief Coordinator for the Dublin city centre Voluntary Tuition Program, where he had responsibility for over 80 children being tutored. In addition to this, he has also served as a leading member of the European Youth Parliament Team which represented Northern Ireland in the UK Finals in Durham.
Stewart Robinson
Stewart Robinson is currently pursuing a Masters in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics at the University of St Andrews, earning an entrance scholarship, prizes and a medal during his academic studies so far. Stewart has volunteered extensively, running summer camps in Edinburgh and Killarney. He is currently working with Barnardos and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Beyond that, Stewart has served on the executive committee for the University Christian Union and is involved with music ensembles within the University.
Karl Ryan
Karl Ryan is a final year student of Law and Irish at University College Cork. Karl has experience of interning with DCU, the Translation Service in the Irish Parliament, William Fry and MarriagEquality Ireland. In addition, Karl has been actively involved on campus with the International Relations Society and Model United Nations. Karl spent two summer's volunteering in an orphanage in Delhi, India. Karl also served as captain of his local GAA team and most recently assisted Phil Prendergast MEP with her election campaign.
Graham Scobie
Graham Scobie is a final-year student in Politics and International Relations. Graham has volunteered across the world, in St. Petersburg, Burkina Faso and Uganda. He also served as a representative of the Alliance Party to the Political Youth Wings 2010 initiative and, in May, ran for the Alliance party in the NI local elections. In addition, Graham currently volunteers with the Samaritans and Victim Support NI.
David Tansey
David Tansey is currently in his third year of Medicine at UCD. David serves as the Student Member on the Board of Trustees of the charity University College Dublin Volunteers Overseas (UCDVO) and worked in an orphanage in India last summer with the charity. David organised the inaugural UCDVO Ball which raised €3500 for the charity's projects. David has also recently co-founded the Friends of Médecins Sans Frontières (FoMSF) society at UCD. David is a keen sportsperson and played rugby and Gaelic football while at school.
